So I know 6 years is kind of a funny milestone to celebrate.  The truth is, this is the first time I’ve passed April 8th and remembered it as the day I released my first (and currently my only) album of original songs.  Now that I have a blog, I want to remember it and write a little bit about what it took to create it.

The creation of these songs probably began more like 10 years ago (wow that makes me feel old!) I didn’t necessarily write any of them with the purpose of being recorded on an album- or shown to anyone at all!  None of them were written with a deadline in mind. All of them simply came from my own inspiration in their own time. That’s something that I love about these songs- they all came from the heart and were special to me.

Once I chose the songs that I would record for the album, it took so much practice. When you go into a recording studio you are usually paying by the hour, so it’s important to have your songs polished and ready to go. Some of the songs I played the guitar, piano, and sang backup vocals for. Hours simply went into practice and preparation! For some of the songs I had my vocal coach Dean Kaelin do additional production, adding drums, bass, cello, and more. He did that, as well as coached me through the vocals so that I would sound my best on the recordings.  I would love to help a future student prepare for a project like this someday. I believe its great for any singer to have experience performing in a recording studio.

Listening to the finished product was seriously like Christmas morning to me! Dean did such a wonderful job with the production. Although none of the songs are completely perfect, the recordings sounded so professional. I was just really happy to have a finished product that reflected years of writing and months of practicing and preparing.  

I’m so thankful for my parents who paid for me to create this album! I am also so thankful to all who have purchased and streamed these songs. This was a great experience in my life, and it’s something I’d love to do again someday.
